“She is a completely different horse thanks to Ellie’s skill, care & attention to detail.”
Why Physiotherapy?
hysiotherapy treatment has countless benefits for all equines, from leisure to competition. Just some of these benefits include;
reduced pain & inflammation
improved range of motion
increased proprioception
improved core stability
reduced healing time of soft tissue structures
increased muscle mass
increased flexibility.
As well as helping in competition maintenance, physiotherapy can support veterinary treatment of conditions such as:
tendon/ligament injuries
osteoarthritis
muscle tears/strains
fractures
neurological conditions
overriding dorsal spinous processes (kissing spines)
sacroiliac (SI) dysfunction.
“Ellie is very patient & knowledgeable…”
Assessment
Every treatment will start with a thorough discussion of previous clinical history, and any particular issues that you may be concerned about. I will then observe the horse statically and dynamically. Following this, I will perform a thorough palpation assessment alongside testing the range of motion in each joint, and specific orthopaedic/neurological tests may be carried out If deemed necessary.
My findings from this assessment form the foundations of every treatment plan, meaning each treatment is completely unique and tailor-made to ensure the very best for your horse.
“Not only is Ellie incredible at what she does, but she is incredibly kind and goes out of her way to ensure you & your horse are happy…”
Manual Therapy
Manual therapy techniques are, for me, the cornerstones of any physiotherapeutic treatment and provide the foundations of a successful outcome, to be supplemented with the use of electrotherapeutic agents. These techniques include;
Massage
Trigger point release
Myofascial release
Range of motion exercises
Joint mobilisation & manipulation
Stretching
Soft tissue mobilisation.
“My highly strung mare quite literally falls asleep in the presence of Ellie!”
Electrotherapy
During my treatments, I supplement the manual techniques I use with electrotherapeutic agents. These are usually used in horses with diagnosed injuries and/or conditions, and in some cases can be loaned to owners to be used in between treatments.
LASER Therapy
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
Heat therapy.
“I was looking for a physio with a hollistic approach and I’m so glad to have found Ellie…”
INDIBA Radiofrequency
INDIBA Radiofrequency can be integrated into physiotherapy sessions or offered as a stand-alone treatment. As well as being used to improve performance, INDIBA can treat conditions such as:
Osteoarthritis
Osteochondritis Diseccans (OCD)
Sacroiliac dysfunction
Muscle tears/strains
Tendon and ligament injuries
Wounds
Overriding dorsal spinous processes (kissing spines)
Bone splints
Laminitis.
“He feels like a new horse after every INDIBA treatment!”
Rehabilitation & Remedial Exercise Prescription
n order to achieve the best results from each treatment, I may prescribe owners speciic exercises, or help you to develop a rehabilitation programme for your horse. Exercises can always be demonstrated, and may include;
rhythmic stabilisations
balance exercises
ground work, e.g. long-reining/lungeing
pole work
active range of motion exercises
stretching
proprioceptive exercises
transitions
lateral work
training aids.
Following treatment, I am always on the end of the phone should you have any concerns or worries about the exercise or rehabilitation programme that I have prescribed.
