Kinesiology Taping for Horses
As part of the requirements to be an IRVAP accredited therapist, I complete continuing professional development (CPD) each year to keep up to date with current practice techniques, protocols & research. I recently attended a course with Jo Rose Therapies in Oxfordshire covering all things kinesiology taping…
What is Kinesiology Tape & What does it do?
Kinesiology tape contains finely woven fabric with elastic fibres that can only stretch in one direction, with alternating ridges that interact with pain receptors, blood vessels and the lymphatic system.
The tape lifts the skin and underlying fascia which;
aids lymphatic drainage
transports white blood cells to areas of damage
improves blood flow
reduces inflammation
takes pressure off the pain receptors, reducing compensatory issues from occuring
improves joint stability through proprioceptive stimulation.
I am very excited to start using this modality during my treatments, if you have any further questions about kinesiology tape or if you think it may benefit your horse please do get in touch!
